The Mesopotamian Marshes are surface waters that cover lowland areas in Southern Iraq. Some believe the Old Testament refers to this area as 'Gardens of Eden'. Research and studies related to history and archeology show that this is the area where Sumerians first appeared. The 1961 movie 'Nuaima' includes a song by famous Iraqi singer Dakhel Hassan called "مشحوفنا طر الهور" which is depicted on the T-shirt and loosely translates to “our boat glides through the waters of the marshes”.
